Share shares Writing on his website last year after Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities announced the results of the thermal scans on the Great Pyramid, he said: If this room exists, it would have to have a function, and since this is not the case the claim cannot be valid. He believes there may well be a hidden chamber waiting to be discovered inside the Great Pyramid Scientists have been using a muon detecting machine pictured to scan the internal structure of the Great Pyramid of Giza. They say the scanning will be complete later this month But Dr Hawass has since been asked by Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities to lead the scientific team that will examine the muon scan results. He was dismissed from his position as head of the Antiquities Ministry following the uprising in that toppled Hosni Mubarak. Speaking outside the Great Pyramid duing a visit with Egypt’s current Antiquities Minister, Khaled El-Anani, Dr Hawass said he had come round to the idea that another burial chamber may remain undiscovered inside the pyramid. Thermal ‘anomalies’ were detected on the Great Pyramid.

Clinical Background [ return to contents ] Prenatal screening and diagnosis are routinely offered for detection of neural tube defects NTDs , Down syndrome, and trisomy Since the introduction of cell-free DNA testing, screening for trisomy 13 has also been offered. The intent of such screening and diagnosis is to enable pregnant women to make informed decisions regarding their pregnancies and be better prepared in the event of the birth of an affected infant.
The Disorders Neural Tube Defects NTD Neural tube defects NTDs anencephaly, open spina bifida or meningomyelocele, and encephalocele are a heterogeneous group of congenital malformations resulting from a failure of fusion of the neural tube. Anencephaly is almost always fatal at or within a few hours of birth. The survival rate and the degree of handicap surgically correctable to severely disabling of children with meningomyelocele or encephalocele vary with the location and severity of the lesion and the treatment given.

Doppler Ultrasound The doppler shift principle has been used for a long time in fetal heart rate detectors. Further developments in doppler ultrasound technology in recent years have enabled a great expansion in its application in Obstetrics, particularly in the area of assessing and monitoring the well-being of the fetus, its progression in the face of intrauterine growth restriction, and the diagnosis of cardiac malformations.
Doppler ultrasound is presently most widely employed in the detection of fetal cardiac pulsations and pulsations in the various fetal blood vessels. The “Doptone” fetal pulse detector is a commonly used handheld device to detect fetal heartbeat using the same doppler principle. Blood flow characteristics in the fetal blood vessels can be assessed with Doppler ‘flow velocity waveforms’.
Diminished flow, particularly in the diastolic phase of a pulse cycle is associated with compromise in the fetus. Various ratios of the systolic to diastolic flow are used as a measure of this compromise. The blood vessels commonly interrogated include the umbilical artery , the aorta , the middle cerebral arteries , the uterine arcuate arteries , and the inferior vena cava.
The use of color flow mapping can clearly depict the flow of blood in fetal blood vessels in a realtime scan, the direction of the flow being represented by different colors. Color doppler is particularly indispensible in the diagnosis of fetal cardiac and blood vessel defects , and in the assessment of the hemodynamic responses to fetal hypoxia and anemia. A more recent development is the Power Doppler Doppler angiography.
Ultrasound Reference Chart Based on IVF Dates to Estimate Gestational Age at 6–9 weeks’ Gestation
Open in a separate window Scan: It should be possible to generate very accurate reference charts by using a large in vitro fertilisation IVF cohort where CRL measurements could be correlated with gestational age precisely calculated from date of fertilisation. Accuracy could be further enhanced by using measurements obtained from high-resolution transvaginal scans by sonologists specialising in Women’s Health.
We examined CRL lengths at 6—9 weeks of gestation measured in a large IVF cohort where gestational age could be calculated from date of fertilisation. We assessed the ability of six commonly used reference charts to accurately date these pregnancies.
Mar 08, · Best Answer: The first scan, known as the Dating Scan is the most accurate of all scans in the pregnancy. There is no chance the baby would be 8 weeks further along, as the Sonographer doing the measurements and looking at the baby would have picked up on this. May 23, Seeing a positive pregnancy test can bring about a host of emotions, thoughts and questions. Your pregnancy is dated from the first day of your last menstrual cycle. This type of dating is based on averages, as many women ovulate about 14 days after the start of their last period, and expect a new period 14 days after ovulation. However, the exact day of ovulation can vary from woman to woman and cycle to cycle. This means that this type of pregnancy dating is only an estimation.
A transvaginal ultrasound an internal ultrasound can detect a heartbeat around 6 weeks of pregnancy. Find out more about week 6 of pregnancy in our informative pregnancy week by week series. ultrasound dating accuracy?
Due to having wavering periods, I never really keep track, and therefore I don’t know when my last period was. I can give an “estimate” but I really don’t know because I never keep track. Plus I have always been told that because of metabolic issues, and PCOS that it would be very hard for me to get pregnant. Anyway, not exactly proud of this, but I was with 2 different men in a two week time period.
Twin and triplet pregnancies are at higher risk of preterm delivery than are singleton pregnancies, making accurate dating essential. ‘Antenatal care’ (NICE clinical guideline 62)14 recommends that healthy pregnant women with singleton pregnancies should be offered an early scan between 10 weeks and 13 weeks .
I thought I was 7 weeks but baby measuring 5. According to my calculations I am 7 weeks along and the sonografer said that I’m 5. She told me to come back in a weeks time. I’m really worried now and praying that I will be ok. Has any of you ladies had a similar experience?????? Add message Report milk Mon Sep I had a scan at 10 weeks thinking I was 12 and then at 12 weeks and it had grown normally.
The only thing you can do is wait for the next scan and try not to worry tooooo much, though I know that is near impossible. Everything is just a little slower than normal. So naturally, I’m pretty worried as well. I go back on Thursday and am hoping and praying we find something in there. What did you see on the scan? I seems that, at this early stage, the development is a bit all over the place and the early scans bring more stress than anything.
I wouldn’t worry too much until you know for sure easier said than done, I know.
Ultrasound – Sonogram
What is an ultrasound? Doctors use a plastic device which emits high-frequency sound waves through your body. The devices are attached to a machine that reads and shows the pattern on a screen. Doctors see the formed image and can determine the location and development of an embryo. And If the ultrasound is done at week 6, the doctors usually use a vaginal ultrasound machine, which consists on a long wand that is inserted into the vagina.
Why is traditional method less effective?
If an ultrasound is done at 6 to 7 weeks and a heartbeat is not detected, does that mean there is a problem? No, it does not mean there is a problem. The heartbeat may not be detected for reasons that include: tipped uterus, larger abdomen, or inaccurate dating with last menstrual period.
GRADE summary of findings for choosing which fetus to use to date twin and triplet pregnancies. Evidence statement Evidence was identified for all fetal ultrasound parameters prioritised for consideration in terms of determining gestational age in twin and triplet pregnancies. All evidence came from observational studies which constitute low or very low quality evidence. With regard to whether the measurements and charts used in singletons were accurate when applied to twins and triplets, no statistically significant differences in size were found between twin and singleton pregnancies using crown—rump length very low quality evidence or biparietal diameter low quality evidence.
Significant differences were reported in the head circumference of larger and smaller twins compared with singletons, although this difference did not remain significant when an average of each set of twins was used very low quality evidence. There was a significant difference between smaller twins and singletons in femur length , but the difference was not significant when comparing the larger twin or the average of each set of twins with singletons very low quality evidence.

Having a scan in the first few months of pregnancy can be a thrilling experience. It’s amazing to see the little blob with a heartbeat that will soon become your baby. When will I have my first scan?
Gestational Age Week 8 & 9 (Fetal Age: weeks) By this point in the pregnancy, everything that is present in an adult human is present in the developing embryo. The embryo has reached the end of the embryonic stage and now enters the fetal stage.
Will the dating scan happen at exactly 12 weeks? The nuchal test is usually done at the same time and done in conjunction with a blood test. Where do I go for my week scan? The scan will be carried out by a sonographer, who is trained in performing scans and knowing what to look out for. Your sonographer will be able to answer any questions you have on the day and will talk you through the process. Advertisement What will the dating scan involve? This can be a bit uncomfortable if you have to wait with a full bladder but it does put your uterus in a better position for scanning.
The process will involve lying back on a bed, with gel applied to your belly. The sonographer will then use a transducer device which uses ultrasound to produce an image of your baby inside the womb to a small display screen next to you. The scan will usually last for around 20 minutes. What will I find out at the week scan? This will be a lot more accurate than working it out just using the date of your last period.
